IMG_2429.JPG - Solomons Island Bridge Illuminated I'd been wanting to take a long exposure of the Solomons Bridge for some time, and just two days before this shot I missed an ideal opportunity because I didn't have my camera with me on the way to work (d'oh!). The full Moon was setting over the bridge, dramatically lighting the water below and providing some nice ambient light. The next day I had my camera in hand, but it was too cloudy. The day after that it was clear, but the Moon was still too high in the sky at around 6:15 A.M., and I could tell that by the time it was in the position I wanted, it would be too light out. I decided to make the best of it by taking some experimental long exposures of car/truck headlights illuminating the bridge. This particular shot was one of the only ones that came out well, as the previews in the LCD screen were deceptively bright, and almost all my other shots were well underexposed. As you can see in the EXIF information below, I shot this one on the Bulb setting, resulting in a 43 second exposure that coincided with the travel time of one truck across the length of the bridge. I'm already making a mental note to return to the bridge for the full Moon at the beginning of next October to get The Shot That Got Away... Note: We had four straight mornings of clouds during my window of opportunity in October 2006; looks like it'll have to wait another year... :-(
